Rhinitis is a condition in which the nasal passages become inflamed and narrowed. The terms hay fever and sinusitis are often used interchangeably for rhinitis. Strictly speaking sinusitis refers to inflammation of the sinuses and not the nasal passages.
What Causes Rhinitis?
In most patients the cause of the nasal inflammation is unknown. In some patients the cause is identified and is usually due to pollen, mould or animal dander. In this case the disease is called Allergic Rhinitis.
What are the signs and symptoms of Rhinitis?
The most common features of rhinitis are a blocked or runny nose.
How is Rhinitis treated?
Antihistamines and steroid sprays are used to treat rhinitis. Other medications are used as indicated.

Yes, in some patients where the cause of the nasal inflammation can be identified. Immunotherapy can be used to desensitize and cure rhinitis.
